CONTROLLING CORRUPTION

Our RecommendationBank accounts of all elected politicians and their families must be available to the public. Fast track courts must be established to process high level corruption cases (say cases involving Rs. 10 Crores or more.)

Explanation

Pakistan is the 33rd most corrupt country in the world*, but there is a cure for corruption – it’s called transparency. When corrupt politicians and government officials get personal gains from official dealings, they keep their personal gains hidden in form of banks accounts and other assets. By simply requiring them to make information in their bank accounts and other assets public, corruption in politics can be curtailed significantly.

An effective Freedom of Information (FOI) law needs to be established so citizens can freely obtain information about the use of public funds, especially when government contracts are awarded.

Corruption in the government is a crime against the country and it should be treated as such. To bring the criminals to justice, a whistle-blower policy should be established that encourages and protects whistle-blowers who uncover government corruption.
